Sweaters

Sweaters

sweaters under $100

Although I'm dreaming of warm weather (I just booked our ferry to Martha's Vineyard last week), it's clearly still winter.  After getting about a foot of snow over the last several days winter is going to stick around for a while.  So today I'm giving you some beautiful sweaters, all under $100!  When thinking about what kind of sweaters to curate for you I thought it would be fun to "ombre" a Valentine collection.  Since the love day is coming up here are some pretty, pretty options for you.

Recent Shopping Trip

Recent Shopping Trip

Hello friends!  Did you all have a nice long weekend?  We did here, even the Mr. was off which was wonderful.  We went to lunch, did some shopping and relaxing.  I actually had a chance to shop with my mom and sister.  It's so awesome living close to them now where we can just spend the afternoon together.

These are just a few of my finds that I loved and were 50% off!

pink cozy sweater with skinny jeans

This sweater had me at pink. :)  It is super cute, the color is so pretty and it's warm and cozy!

What a fun puffer jacket!  The cinched sleeves mimic bell sleeves and it's super cute!  It also comes in several other colors.  I also love this fleece lined denim jacket :)

This gorgeous sweater is not one I can wear right now.  But I got it thinking it will be perfect in my suitcase when the Mr. and I travel to Arizona in February!  I'm so excited.  We haven't been away just the 2 of us for several years.  So picture this with white jeans and gold sandals!

More I'm loving at Loft!

Thanks so much for reading!

Winter Layers

Winter Layers

camo jacket with fur vest and skinny jeans

Hello friends and Happy Monday!  Are you all off today?  We've had a great long weekend here and I'm excited to enjoy 1 more day before the kiddos go back to school.

This winter has been a doozy for us here in western PA.  We've had crazy cold and then almost hit 60 degrees last week.  Now we're back to the tundra :(.  I love snow but I'm not enjoying this cold thing.  To combat this up and down today I'm bringing you a layered look I wore.  This was on a weekend when I had planned to go out with the kids to several different places.   I don't like wear big puffy coats when I'm on the go so I chose several layers that complimented each other.  This outfit has different textures and layers but all works together for a cohesive look!

Check out more of my everyday outfits on Instagram here!

Fighting the Winter Blues

Fighting the Winter Blues

fighting the winter blues

Does anyone else get the winter blues?  I certainly do.  I think it all starts after Christmas when taking down the Christmas decorations.  I mean it's depressing right?  Putting up the Christmas decorations is fun, exciting, you Christmas music going and the house looks so festive.  Then after all the holidays everything gets packed away in boxes only to come out in another whole year!

My depression starts here and now.  This year I'm determined to not get in a funk.  Do you want (or need) to come along for the ride? :)  There are 3 things that I'm focused on.  Sometimes I plan on working on 1 of the 3 more than the other.  Sometimes I won't have time to do all 3 and that's ok!  I HAVE to be ok with that.  I'm somewhat of a type A or perfectionist.  I'm hard on myself, guilt myself (jeez what did I get done today?!).  I'm working on it!

1.  My Mental Health.  Every day I try to have my devotions and start the day off right.  Proverbs31 Ministries is my go to along with the Bible app.  Sometimes I read both, sometimes just one depending on my morning.  Proverbs31 Ministries has both an app (called First 5) and their website.  It's chalk full of readings, online Bible studies and inspiration.  I've been very faithful in the First 5 app in my morning.  There is always something I learn with every post.

I've also been reading through a plan in the Bible app (YouVersion) called New Day, New You.  It's very quick and thoughtful.  The Bible app is awesome because they also have kid devotions that I read with Jack & Ella before school.  It's good for them to start of their day right too!

It's super easy to get the winter blues, especially in the northeast where it's cold (been bitter cold) and snowy.  The daily grind of kids, keeping up the house and mundane chores can really get you down.  Although I relish peace and quiet at times, I find that I work better, have more energy and a better attitude when I listen to music.  I absolutely love KLove (you can also listen online).  I listen to it on my Alexa and sometimes my own play lists in iTunes.

Recent songs I've downloaded? :)
 - God of All My Days, Casting Crowns (ah I LOVE this song.  God is always pursuing us and He loves us, is unchanging and keeps His promises)
 - Witness, Jordan Feliz (awesome song to have a little dance party be it with your kiddos or solo! haha)
 - Masterpiece, Danny Gokey (A reminder that God is never finished with us.  He's making us His masterpiece)
 - I just need U, Toby Mac (Our only hope is in the Lord.  In our darkest moments, He is there.  He is all we need)
 - Miracle, Unspoken (Always believe your miracle is coming.  Hope is in Jesus, your miracle is coming!)

2. Exercise Consistently.  I've been a pretty healthy person all my life.  I was a competitive gymnast for 11 years and worked HARD.  I mean when I say worked hard, I was at the gym between 15 and 20 hours a week with meets (competitions) on the weekends.  We did so many push ups, sit ups, dips, races, sprints and we even pushed a car around a parking lot for training!  Gymnastics gave me a gift of health, confidence and friendships.  But at over 40 my body is beat.  I have a bad back, bad feet and bad knees.  So finding a workout that is right for me can be difficult.  But I have worked with amazing trainers in the past and also do my own research.

Let me start by saying that I don't like working out.  It is not something I look forward to.  BUT, being active and fit is good and once I DO it, I feel great!  I do have to force myself and when I get into it and am consistent it gets easier.  It's all about those endorphins!

I talked a little bit about my work outs here in an earlier post this week.

3. Eating Better.  Let me just say that I don't eat unhealthy.  I've been a disciplined eater most of my life too.  I'm the crazy girl that gets an individual bag of chips and takes 4 days to eat it!  However I have a big sweet tooth.  To give you an idea, I used to put 10 teaspoons of sugar on my cereal growing up.  Full disclosure friends! HA!

Now I have this sweet tooth more under control, but I still love my sweets.  My choice?  I don't give up things.  I moderate.  I still eat pizza, chocolate, ice cream.  Do I eat them everyday?  No... Well... chocolate yes (dark chocolate minis with almonds).

I've seen some meal plans that may be less calories, but are they healthy?  I'm not so sure.  What I'd like to learn is different, healthy and YUMMY recipes to eat.  I've been trying some out new ones that I hope to share with you soon!

These are the 3 things that I am going to do to fight the winter blues.  Are you fighting the winter blues?  I'd love to have you on this journey between now and the budding beauties of spring.

Let's fight these winter blues!

Hi friends!  Cleo wanted to make an appearance on The Lane today :)  It's been a low key week getting back into the swing of things.  Thank goodness the cold streak has ended (for the moment), but I've run out of wood!  If you follow me on Instagram you know I LOVE my fires every night.  So that is definitely on order.  I'm also trying out some new recipes that I'll share later this month!

This dress had me at hello.  It's super cute, I can wear it now and later aaand it's on super sale!  Right now I paired it with my over the knee boots, but here it's so cute with black booties.  In less than a month I'll be taking this cutie to Arizona and wearing it with my gold sandals :)  And probably layering with a must have denim jacket!

Athleisure

Athleisure

A new year means new goals, new dreams and all new to-do lists!  Being in shape has always been something I strive for.   Since I was little I have been active.  As a competitive gymnast for 11 years I know how to work hard.  But as I've gotten older and aches and pains are the norm, it's hard to be motivated sometimes.  What I've learned is to do my best.  Don't be so hard on myself.  Make time to work out, but don't be guilt ridden when I don't.

Love all of this athletic wear too!

I'll be honest I do NOT work out every day.  I don't like to, my body needs breaks and I don't feel like I really need to.  I'm active around the house even when I don't work out.

This year I will be sharing more of my workouts, more of what I'm eating (or not eating) and just being more healthy.  I do NOT diet.  I don't do no carbs, no sugar, no pizza!  Man, I love pizza.  I just can't.  BUT I DO limit these foods.  Everything in moderation (with the exception of non-food items - aspartame, sucralose, etc.).  In September I had a physical issue that made me realize I needed to completely cut these fake sugars out of my diet.  I will talk about that later.

Now I am NOT a nutritionist or a trainer.  These thoughts and opinions are my own.  I really feel like with any exercise and healthy eating... it needs to be your own.  Find out what works for you.  Be healthy.  Be fit.  BUT BE. YOUR. OWN.  Be you!

Did you make any resolutions to get more fit?

Thanks for stopping by
