Tutorial - Simply Contouring

easy contouring, 4 steps for contouring, beauty, tips and tricks,

Let me just begin by saying that I'm not a professional make-up artist.  I have had no special training.  My contouring supplies are also not professional!  HA! (wait until you see).  At some point I will buy a professional contouring kit, but I'm sort of practical?  Why buy something new when I have make-up that works right now.  I'll show you what I use to do my contouring and I'm sure you'll be surprised!

I DO NOT contour my face every day.  Most days I have about a half an hour to get ready, start to finish. Sooo, this isn't in the cards.  When do I contour?  Photo shoots and nights out mostly.

Below you'll find my 4 easy steps for contouring.  The first step is to apply all your normal make up including blush. Then:

1.  Apply bronzer.  Think sun.  Where does the sun naturally hit your face?  Forehead, tip of  your nose, chin.  Product:  I use a Cargo bronzer that I've had for... well... a long time.  Love it.

2.  Shape by contouring.  I contour in a few places: cheeks, nose, neck.   For my cheeks I do a fish face :) then brush the powder just under my cheek bone.  I then use a small sculpting brush on either side of my nose.  With the same sculpting brush I powder my jaw lines from just by my ear to my chin, both sides.  Product:  I use Laura Geller's Balance and Bronze.  I love this product because I use it for all over powder as well as for contouring (the darker side).  Two in one!!  Doesn't get any better than that!

3.  Highlight your best features!  Places to highlight: cheek bones, nose, and just above your brows.  Highlight your cheeks just a tad bit above your cheek bone, brushing in circles like a "C" up around the outer corner of your eye.  Next I brush the hightlighter down the bridge of my nose and just above each one of my brows (very lightly).  Product:  Ok, don't laugh at me!  I actually use an eyeshadow!  MAC, Phloof.
Works like a charm.

4. Blend baby!  The real trick to looking great and for your make not to look like "make-up" is to blend.  Blend EVERYTHING!  Foundation, eyeshadow, blush, and when you contour.  I blend at the very end, all over face with a very large soft brush.

Play, practice, and blend, blend, blend!  See my night time skin routine here as well for my tips on great cleansing and moisturizing!  Check out some skincare products I'll be purchasing this fall below!

  9. I love that Cargo bronzer! You do a lovely job with subtle contouring. It's just enough to enhance without being obvious. ;) Thanks for the tips.

  12. Hi, great tutorial - bronzer has always been a challenge for me - mostly in color-selection. I tend to look muddy with most bronzers I've tried which just means I need to keep looking for the right bronzer shade. So which shade of the Cargo BeachBlush do you use? Jane
