Closet Conundrums!

Do you ever walk into your closet and stand there for 5, 10 minutes like a deer in headlights?  This is happening to me lately...  yes, I know I write a fashion (and life blog).  If you're having this problem, the best thing I can say is - reorganize! Yes, people, I LOVE being organized.  I'm a neat freak, list-making crazy nut.  When you run a small business, have 2 children, work part-time and run a blog.... well, let's just say I HAVE to be organized.  So here's my closet below (minus the hubs side...) and I'll list for you some DO's nd DON'Ts to closet bliss.  My closet is still a work in progress but join with me and let me tell you, when you stand before your beautiful closet in the morning and hear "uuuuhhhAHHHH!"   You'll be so happy you took the time to organize it!
Closet DO's:
  • Organize by season.  If you have the room, keep spring/summer together and fall/winter together.  I used to have a tiny closet, so I would have to keep my clothes for opposites seasons packed away until I "change out" my closet.
  • Color organize your closet, light to dark.
  • Keep all your blazers, jacket & vests together
  • When organizing your jeans, order by type: skinny, boot cut, jeans to wear with flats, jeans to wear with heels etc.  (you may alter depending on how many jeans you have and what types, but you get the drift).  I hang my jeans, you may choose to shelve them.
  • Shoes: organize again by season first and then type (sandals, heels, flats, boots, sneakers)
  • Not a pretty subject, but your laundry basket... I recommend having 2.  One for lights & delicates and one for darks.  It makes laundry day a much better and quicker experience!
  • At the change of seasons, go through the items that have not worn 1 time during that season and put aside.  Which brings me to the DON'Ts....
Closet DON'Ts:
  • Many "organizers" say to get rid of clothes that you haven't worn in a year.... I say no to this.  Instead, store them away for 3-5 years (if you can and have the space).  Reason?  As of late, I have said to myself "WHY did I get rid of that???"  Call me Goodwill happy!  Ugh...
  • Don't let the clutter get out of hand.  Try your best to to clean & organize as you go.
More inspirational photos below for you and me!
Have a great day loves!

  5. What a great post! I have a nicely sized closet, but it's one long pole, and a shelf which gives me little to work with. I'm thinking I'll have to reposition the pole and shelf to make more use of it.

    1. Yes! When we moved in the builder put one pole around the whole closet. I was master contractor and installed the other shelves & shoe rack. Lots of work, but worth it!

  6. Great tips! I keep my closet pretty well sorted by season and style, but still stand there like a deer in headlights most evenings (I lay out my clothes the night before or I'd be late every day)! I think a little more color organization is much needed for me! Yours looks great!

  7. Great blog layout! I am like a deer in the headlights in my closet all the time. Does not help that it looks like my clothes got out and had a war in there.
