Linking up with Peacoats & Plaid, DC In Style, & Yolo Mondays!
We had a busy weekend! Recently we had some heirloom furniture delivered from our Mimi's house. It made our house... a little chaotic. Now the house is put together and back to normal with a lot of hard work. Saturday night we went to dinner with family for a birthday celebration. I'm diggin' my floral pumps lately (last seen here). I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Mama Said Monday
Be your child or children's advocate! When the nuggets were born, they were perfect little angels for the first 4 weeks. They slept, ate, pooped, slept, ate... you get the drift. At five weeks? They turned into screaming, crying, parents going crazy babies. I mean, I can't even tell you the craziness in our house. My mother, who was with us us the first three weeks, had left to vote and I BEGGED her every day to come back. We were in over our heads and barely treading water. The night she came back, she found me at 3 am in our bathroom, with the vent running full blast, rocking Jack. She came in and exclaimed, "what happened to them?"
Well, she actually knew, because she had experienced it too with my sister and I... reflux. I felt awful that my babies had inherited my stomach (as a baby, I'm fine now). Everyone gets confused, colic, the bewitching hour, etc, blah, blah, blah. But I'm telling you, you would know the difference. It's really hard to explain to people unless you've experienced how awful it is. Awful for you AND the baby. Our babies, were not soft cuddly little nuggets. They were screaming (not crying), stiff as boards, never relaxed babies. One night, when Ella had been screaming for four hours I had HAD it. I called the pediatrician to get some help and he said to me (I remember clear as day), "Oh that's what babies do, they cry..." I wanted to reach through the phone and strangle him. This is NOT what babies do. It took 3 months and countless doctor visits for anyone to listen to us.
Finally when my MIL hired a Douala for us, we found our angel. She listened, treated us and our children with respect, and found us a pediatrician who helped us. To this day, I love our pediatrician. He will come in, sit on the floor and really talk to us. He asks us about our children in all aspects; health, eating habits, personality, how they are raised (daycare vs home). Hevcares and he tells us we're doing a good job (which you don't hear often as a parent).
This is a long Mama Said Monday, but I wanted to share it. It was an extremely difficult time for my husband and I. A time I feel a little sad about because we didn't really get to enjoy our babies. Having two at a time, both incredibly sick, was a whirlwind. We don't plan on having any more, so we sort of "missed out". I'm writing this for anyone who might be going through this, now or in the future. BE your child's advocate. You are their parent, you know them better than anyone, love them more than anyone, so do anything for them.
Happy Monday!

Thank you, sure, following you now. Hope to see you back.
DeleteGood pediatrician is an asset when you have a baby, 2 in yours and my case. My boys were asthmatic and they were on medication all the time. Thank God when they were 10, they were declared asthma free! Those were tough time, more for them than me but it passed and they are fabulous now.

DeleteHi~ I just hopped over from #YOLO. Thank you for posting this. My daughter never had colic but we had some food allergies that I just knew as a mommy but the pediatrician was apprehensive... turns out mommy was right. Mommyhood is the toughest job in the world~ even when our kids are having a good day. Oh~ and super CUTE shoes!

I can TOTALLY relate. My darling daughter went from adorable newborn to never sleeping always screaming at 2 weeks. LUCKILY our ped recognized the signs early and had her on Zantac almost immediately. Helped, but she certainly wasn't like all of our friend's babies who could take a nap at the drop of a hat. To this day she's what you could nicely put it as "spirited." Definitely the opposite of both myself and my husband, she's always keeping us on our toes!
ReplyDeleteIt is ridiculous how good that necklace looks on you with your fair hair and perfect top! Love it! Also, I think I'm obsessed with your freckles! So cute!

Lulu thank you for sharing this post! It gives me so much insight into parenthood! Every child is different and special and has different needs that need to be met! I agree with you completely about being an advocate for your child! So sad that they were sick, but glad they are better now! As for your outfit, love the green peplum top with the white jeans!
