A Thankful Heart

I've been a Christian since I was 4.  There are times when I have been strong in my faith and times when I have been weak in my faith.  I haven't had a hard life, but things never came easy to me either.  Since my twins have been born I've grown up, learned a lot.  I guess that's what motherhood does to you.  :)  I have a list of things I want to reach my kiddos.  Love the Lord and have a personal relationship with him.  Be respectful, considerate, compassionate.  Have a positive and thankful heart.  These are the most important things, among a large list!

The last month I'm trying to dive back into having daily time with the Lord.  I'm using YouVersion and love it.  They have tons of different Bible plans to choose from.  Some are everyday for a year, some are just 5 days, some are 14 weeks.  Right now I'm reading The Power of Being Thankful.  It's become a clear to me that having a thankful heart should be a way of life.  It's something that can be very difficult, but very powerful.  Most of us have much to be thankful for.  Can you walk?  Can you see?  Can you hear?  Be thankful.  Do you have a warm bed to sleep in?  A full stomach?  Clothes to wear?  Be thankful.  We go about life through a tunnel or on high speed.  We complain, we gripe, we get frustrated.  Be thankful.  Go outside yourself, your hurts, your pain.  Be thankful.

So I'm doing my best to teach my kids to have a thankful heart.  To not forget the little and big things we have, because we have been blessed.  Each night we talk about the things we're thankful for that day.  A lot of the time they say the same things, family, friends.  But sometimes they have some wonderful things to say and it makes me proud to be their mama.

I often think of a funny Veggie Tale story my kids used to watch called Madame Blueberry.  Madame Blueberry is sad because she doesn't have nice things.  Her things are old and broken.  Two gentleman visit her and promise that all she needs is some new things to make her happy.  They introduce her to StuffMart.  She shops and shops until her house is so full it falls to the ground (well really in Veggie Tale fashion it flies out of her tree house).  On the ground, in a park, there is a little girl that is celebrating with her family and she has one small piece of pie.  Her little song goes like this:

I thank God for this day,
For the sun in the sky,
For my mom and my dad,
For my piece of apple pie!
For our home on the ground,
For his love all around,
That's why I say thanks everyday!
Because a thankful heart is a happy heart,
I'm glad for what I have,
That's an easy way to start!
For the love that he shares,
'Cause he listens to my prayers,
That's why I say thanks everyday!

Thank you so much for being a reader!  You can see and hear more about my daily reads on Instagram and Snapchat (simplylulustyle).  Have a beautiful day!
