Fashion Friday - Wardrobe Staples

I've been asked by some friends lately to help them with styling.  It's so fun and it's part of why I started this blog.  I love fashion and even more, I love being able to help other women, especially moms get their groove back.  Or in some cases, just get their groove!

The first place when I help someone with their style is to talk to them about wardrobe staples.  You cannot even begin to put outfits together unless you have these basics.  I have a collage above of some basics, but a complete list is below.  These are recommendations!  You may not need everything or want everything on this list, but it's a beginning point.  You can also add to your basics at any time because they are just that... BASICS!  These wardrobe staples are classic pieces that should last you a looong time.

However, just because they're basics doesn't mean they are boring!  The best basic, classic, wardrobe staples have beautiful detailing.  Simple and elegant detailing that will not easily go out of style.  For example, the pencil skirt above?  It's a classic length, just below the knee, and black and white (always classic).  But the pattern is beautiful, intriguing... not boring!

Keep this in mind when choosing classic pieces; look for detail around the pockets, necklines etc., flattering ruching (as in the LBD), and things to lengthen your silhouette (everyone looks good in bootcut jeans & pointy toed pumps lengthen your legs).  Don't forget about color!  Add some color to some unexpected pieces like your trench coat or pumps!

  •  Cardigan sweater
  • Classic suit including pants & jacket
  • A little black dress (LBD)
  • Riding boot
  • Pumps
  • Flats
  • White T-shirt
  • Black T-shirt
  • Statement pieces: scarves, jewelry, etc.

  4. Agree with most! I don't have pencil skirt and blouse in my list (maybe because I don't work 9-5)instead I have white crisp shirt and linen pants!

    1. My style is ever changing and I actually like to caz up a pencil skirt with booties and dress down my white blouses. I used to steer clear of "blouses" because I thought they were uncomfortable, but with new blends some are amazing!
