How, What, Wear: Jeans

sweater, J.Crew (sold out similar here)  |  jeans, CoH  |  pumps, Charles David  |  bag, Dooney & Bourke  |  sunnies, Ray Ban  |  bracelet, Vince Camuto (last season, loving this one)

Sometimes simple is best.  When I'm not sure what to wear, I reach for a great pair of jeans and a sweater.  I've invested in some beautiful jeans and they have and will last me a long time.  Don't be afraid to spend a little extra here - it's worth it!  How do I shop for jeans online?  Here are my tips and what I look for when shopping for jeans:
  1. Know your measurements: hips, thigh, and inseam.  When you wear heels, what do you want your inseam to be?  For example, if I want ankle length jeans, I need about a 27" inseam (I look for cropped denim).  If I want a pair of  boot cut jeans to wear with heels I need a 30/31" inseam.
  2. Know your rise:  what looks best on you and what is the most comfortable.  I like, on average a 8" rise.  This looks best and feels comfortable for me.
  3. Leg opening.  This is really key for me when buying skinny jeans.  Especially being petite.  If I need to hem a pair of skinny jeans, it's important to have a small leg opening.  Think about it.  The opening of the jean gets larger as it goes up the leg (dah...).  If I have to cut off the jean to hem it, the opening will be larger than it was originally and therefore it might appear "flared" a bit.  Even if you don't have to hem your skinny jeans, keeping the leg opening small keeps the leg thin and lengthening.  I look for about a 10" leg opening.
  4. Read reviews.  This is really key when buying any clothes online.  Does the item run small/big?  How has it held up, is it cheap?
So there you have it.  My how & what to wear jeans.  I have some of my favorite picks here and on Pinterest Wish List - check it out! Have a wonderful day.

  3. You're absolutely right about looking for very small leg openings in skinny jeans for petite ladies! So freaking hard to find the right skinny jeans! I try to shop petite if I can to avoid this problem!

  13. Oh gosh, the age old how should my jeans fit question. I always have this issue, and avoid buying denim since it's so difficult. Your tips are so helpful though, so I'll have to try again!
